Day11 - More of the Hard Part!

It's the second day of the construction phase of the park and everyone got a pair of gloves to be able to work safely.

The sunny weather was a sign for them to keep going. The task is to level the land by hand. So it means a lot of lifting, digging and more time under the sun.

The crictical points were measured and properly labeled to serve as reference.

James and Kyle trying to make sure that the leveled area was accurate.

Tired students still having some fun.

More materials came in and they have to lift everything by hand.

Teamwork and cooperation is the key for them to function as one.

Tomorrow will be another digging marathon for them but still with so much enthusiasm on each individual I'm sure the job will be done on time.

Day10 - Start of the Building Phase

The challenging part of the project have started. The students will build the park in the remaining three weeks. :)

But before doing things outdoor the students were given a few more tasks. They have to rearrange the building where they held most of their drawing classes to bring more space.

Then they will do a lot more of physical stuff outside under the heat of the sun.

Most of these students don't have any construction experience before but they are up for the challenge.

Then the materials and help started coming.

The spectacular view of the sea can help ease the tiredness that they feel.

But the weather that day totally cooperated.

The city of Puerto Prinsesa also gave us medical help.

Eventhough tired from the day's work, they can still manage to paint a smile on their faces.

Day09 - Presentation/Approval of the Design

It's a very special day for everyone. Mayor Hagedorn gave his thumbs up this morning to the design of the park. The creativity and hard work of the participants paid off!

Below, drawings and the model design were presented to Mayor Hagedorn and other city officials.

Then the participants had some time off after breakfast to explore Puerto Prinsesa some more.

In the afternoon, city engineers paid a visit to have a look of the approved design and to give them advice on two key things:

1. the condition of the soil
2. factors to consider as they build the foundation and structure of the design.

Kyle in turn talke about what the whole construction process would look like, all the better to help everyone to understand what needs to be done, and what to expect in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some of the site development and master plan drawings and sketches:
